The Role

You’ll join our finance, data, and operations teams, using your medical coding expertise to ensure accurate coding, compliance, and appropriate reimbursement for our patients. You’ll be working remotely, with occasional travel to Chicago or other locations to meet with colleagues.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Coding Wizardry: Employ techniques to assign accurate codes for medical procedures, diagnoses, and services using CPT, ICD-10, HCPCS, and applicable modifiers.
  • Medical Record Detective: Conduct thorough reviews and analysis of patient medical records, encounter forms, and related documents to ensure coding accuracy.
  • Team Player: Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and administrative staff to address coding questions and discrepancies.
  • Coding Guru: Keep up-to-date on evolving regulations, policies, and reimbursement methodologies, adjusting coding practices to remain compliant.
  • Claim Validator: Validate claims and invoices for coding accuracy, promptly identifying and addressing any inconsistencies.
  • Reporting Rockstar: Participate in creating reports and audits for internal and external evaluations, including quality assurance and compliance assessments.
  • Communication Champion: Maintain effective communication with finance, data, and clinical teams to ensure smooth claim submission and processing, ensuring proper reimbursement.

What We Look For In You

  • Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or equivalent coding certification
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as a medical coder
  • Coding Pro: Proficiency in coding systems such as CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS, with an understanding of coding guidelines and policies.
  • Communication Powerhouse: Strong written and verbal communication skills for effective collaboration within virtual interdisciplinary teams.
  • Tech Savvy: Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems and medical billing tools.
  • Audit Expert: Experience conducting coding audits and quality assurance assessments.
  • EHR/RCM Master: Expertise with maintenance of fee schedules within an EHR/RCM system, including managing billing.
  • Medicare & VA Know-How: Familiarity with Medicare and VA-specific coding systems and procedures.
  • Telehealth Experience: Previous experience with outpatient care and/or telehealth-specific billing protocols.
  • Remote Work Rockstar: Demonstrated success in a virtual work environment.
