🎯 The Role

As an Engineering Manager, you will assist in hiring high-caliber Engineers to support team growth, mentor and collaborate with team members to help them achieve their career aspirations, and drive processes that sustain a high-performance engineering team. As an Engineering Lead, your mission is to cultivate and contribute to Anchorage’s culture, coach and mentor team members, help refine our roadmap, and provide continuous support with our recruiting efforts. The goal is to have a team that is growing, feels challenged, fulfilled, and eager to tackle the next company objective.

💻 Responsibilities (What You’ll Do)

• Refine the engineering roadmap, drive operational excellence, and develop technology strategies for your team.
• Use your expertise and judgment to tackle complex and ambiguous challenges, delivering scalable solutions.
• Prioritize the well-being, satisfaction, and personal/professional development of each team member.

🛠️ Technical Skills

• Lead a team of Engineers, taking responsibility for their quality of execution, timeliness of delivery, impact, and growth.
• Mentor and advise team members, providing coaching and feedback to elevate their skills.
• Take ownership of the quality of execution, timeliness of delivery, processes, impact, and personal and professional growth for your team.

🤝 Organizational Knowledge

• Collaborate with Product Managers to define investment in our products, aligning product plans with team bandwidth, technical realities, and growth plans.

🗣️ Communication and Influence

• Work with other engineering managers, product management, people/recruiting, and the rest of engineering to drive team growth, retention, and hiring.
• Have a significant influence on what Anchorage builds and who builds it, taking ownership of growth planning, recruiting, and performance management for your team.

✅ Requirements (What We’re Looking For)

• Demonstrated experience in managing, mentoring, and growing a geographically distributed team.
• Real-world experience in building complex distributed systems. We primarily use Go, but languages can be learned. We value your engineering and management skills over specific languages or frameworks.
• Enjoyment in building services from scratch and supporting them over time.
• Genuine care for code quality and test infrastructure.
• Prioritization of end-user experience and business value.
• Developed “computer science fundamentals” (concurrency, algorithms, and data structures). A formal CS degree is NOT required.
• Self-described as creative, humble, ambitious, detail-oriented, hardworking, trustworthy, eager to learn, methodical, action-oriented, and tenacious.

⭐ Nice-to-Have

• Experience with applied cryptography.
• Understanding of “crypto” as cryptography, not just cryptocurrency.
• Interest in reading blockchain protocol white papers and staying updated on cryptoasset innovations.
• Background in the finance industry.
• Professional experience with Go/Rust/TypeScript/Solidity.
• Familiarity with optimistic & zero-knowledge tech.
