About the Role 🧑💼
This GIS SME Technical Adviser role focuses on supporting NATO's mapping and geospatial needs. You'll ensure NATO operations have access to top-quality geospatial data and tools. The JISR Centre's vision is to guarantee information superiority for NATO, delivering and protecting crucial ISR capabilities. The GeoMetOc Services Branch needs your expertise for geospatial production tasks supporting NATO operations.
What You'll Do 🎯
- Provide technical guidance on mapping methodologies and GIS tools, ensuring alignment with NATO geospatial policies and mission requirements.
- Help update NATO mapping standards (JOGs, TLMs, and MTMs).
- Implement rapid mapping techniques for updating NATO standard mapping series.
- Identify geospatial data requirements for NATO Functional Area Services (FASs).
- Develop and implement QA/QC procedures for GIS and mapping projects.
- Perform quality control of GIS products and NATO mapping series.
- Implement geospatial standards to ensure alignment with NATO standards and interoperability.
- Demonstrate deep knowledge of the work done by the JGRWG and JSWG.
- Handle ad-hoc geospatial production support tasks.
What We're Looking For 💪

Essential: Completion of the NATO Geospatial Orientation Course (M2-48 - INT) at the NATO School Oberammergau (NSO).

Essential: At least 1 year of experience in NATO operational theaters, supporting geospatial operations in challenging environments.

Essential: Strong understanding of NATO GIS standards, interoperability, and data management policies (JGRWG and JSWG).

Essential: 5+ years of professional experience in mapping production using NATO standards (JOG maps, TLMs, and MTMs).

Essential: Proven experience using ESRI Data Driven Pages with Python scripting for creating complex map books.

Essential: Proven experience implementing color management systems for GIS mapping projects.

Essential: 3+ years of experience using ESRI extensions (Data Reviewer, Defense Mapping, Production Mapping, Spatial Analyst, Task Assistant Manager) for MTM production.

Essential: 3+ years of experience manipulating and editing vector data using ArcGIS 10 (x) Tools/ArcGIS Pro.

Essential: Proven experience implementing rapid mapping production methodologies.

Essential: 3+ years of experience in photointerpretation and feature classification using aerial/satellite imagery.

Essential: 1+ year of experience in MTM production (cartographic editing and map finishing).

Essential: Verification of 100% MTM compliance with Data Product Specifications from a recognized geographic mapping entity.

Essential: Proven ability to perform MTM Quality Control according to specifications.

Essential: 3+ years of experience developing and implementing QA/QC procedures for GIS map production.

Essential: Knowledge of NATO geospatial policy and geospatial data requirements for NATO operations.

Essential: 3+ years of experience working with Designated Geospatial Information (DesGI) and Supplementary Geographic Information (SGI).

Essential: Ability to travel to the NCI Agency for coordination meetings.

Essential: Fluent Business English.

Essential: MSc degree in Geospatial Science, GIS, or a related field (or 6+ years of extensive, progressive experience in related duties).
