Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain mainframe applications using COBOL, JCL, CICS, VSAM, and DB2.
- Analyze, troubleshoot, and resolve production issues to ensure uninterrupted operations.
- Write, modify, and optimize JCL scripts for batch processing and automation.
- Work with DB2 databases: develop queries, optimize performance, and maintain data integrity.
- Participate in system modernization projects, integrating mainframe systems with cloud or distributed platforms.
- Collaborate with business analysts and functional teams to understand requirements and deliver technical solutions.
- Perform code reviews, testing, and debugging to ensure software quality and compliance.
- Support migration, upgrade, and disaster recovery planning.
- Document processes, solutions, and best practices for ongoing knowledge sharing.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in Mainframe development and support.
- Strong programming knowledge in COBOL, JCL, CICS, VSAM, and DB2.
- Experience with batch and online processing in large-scale enterprise systems.
- Familiarity with utilities (SORT, IDCAMS, IEBGENER, DFSORT, etc.).
- Knowledge of mainframe testing and debugging tools (Expeditor, Abend-Aid, File-Aid).
- Understanding of software development lifecycle (SDLC), Agile/Waterfall methodologies.
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, with experience in production support.
- Excellent communication skills, able to work with cross-functional teams in a remote setup.
Preferred Qualifications (Nice to Have)
- Experience in mainframe-to-cloud migration projects (AWS Mainframe Modernization, Azure, GCP).
- Exposure to API integration with mainframe applications (REST, SOAP, MQ).
- Knowledge of Rexx scripting or Assembler.
- Experience in regulated industries (finance, healthcare, telecom, government).
- Familiarity with DevOps tools for mainframe (Endevor, Changeman, Git for Mainframe).
