We are looking for an outstanding intern professional with a Master's degree in electrical engineering, computer science, or physics to join our Optical Architecture Group in Lisbon, Portugal. What We're Looking For

We're seeking a highly motivated individual with a strong understanding of digital communications and telecommunications systems. You will have experience with optimization models and algorithms, digital signal processing, and optical transmission models. You should be comfortable working with programming languages like Matlab, Python, Julia, or similar.

What You'll Do

As a Research Engineer and Doctoral Student, you will:

• Investigate existing and new optical node architectures for metro-aggregation networks.
• Develop multi-objective optimization algorithms for network design.
• Implement simplified models to estimate optical performance in metro-aggregation networks.
• Collaborate with other team members and external researchers.
• Write and present internal and public reports and deliverables.
• Publish technical papers in high-impact journals and conferences.

The PhD Program

The PhD work is part of the Doctoral Network (DN) NESTOR, funded by the European Commission. You will carry out your research at Infinera's premises in Lisbon, Portugal, and have an extended secondment at Politecnico di Torino, Turin, Italy. The PhD degree will be awarded by Instituto Universitário de Lisboa (ISCTE).

About NESTOR

The NESTOR doctoral network aims to develop cost-effective solutions for deploying coherent optical transceivers in metro-access networks. The project involves key industry players and leading universities and research institutes.
