About Ryanair Labs

Ryanair Labs is the technology brand of Ryanair, a tech startup within an airline. We're creating Europe's leading travel experience for customers with a state-of-the-art digital & IT innovation hub.

We're on a mission to become the Amazon of Travel with an encompassing Trip's platform, digitally revolutionizing the travel industry. We're looking for top IT talent who want to work on game-changing projects that impact our business and over 150 million people a year.

Portugal is our newest location, and we offer a 100% work-from-home policy. You'll be part of a global team with offices in Dublin, Madrid, and Wroclaw.

What You'll Do

As an Optimization Engineer, you'll join a multi-disciplinary team working alongside Data Scientists, Developers, Designers, and Product Owners. You'll own your work from the initial idea to the final implementation.

You'll have opportunities to work in various areas, including:
  • Flight operations
  • Ground operations
  • Scheduling
  • Route development
  • And anything else you can think of!
The optimization engineering team's goal is to automate and optimize company operations with advanced optimization techniques. You'll be a key player in delivering solutions that improve decision-making in business-critical areas.

We're looking for someone who loves tackling challenging problems in mathematical optimization (MIP, CP, min-cost-flow, …) and believes in the transformative power these solutions can bring to the business.

What We're Looking For

Required Experience:
  • +2 years of experience (or relevant academic experience) working on mathematical optimization projects
  • +2 years of experience developing with Python or C++
  • Skills in at least two of the following:
    • Mixed integer programming (branch and bound etc.)
    • Linear programming (simplex method, duality theory, column generation)
    • Constraint programming
    • Local search methods
    • Metaheuristics
  • Fluent in English
Nice-to-Haves:
  • PhD in Mathematical Optimisation/Research Operations
  • Experience in optimization models with a large number of variables and restrictions where scale and performance are a challenge
What We Offer
  • 100% Remote work from within Portugal
  • Staff travel with flight tickets for yourself, family, or friends
  • Possibility of pursuing an industrial PhD
  • A dedicated team of Optimisation Engineers
  • Support from Data Engineering and Software Development teams (your focus will be on optimization, not on data wrangling)
  • Financial support for conferences and training courses
  • Possibility for career growth in a continuously growing team
  • Competitive salary with stable yearly reviews
  • Referral bonus system
  • Regular Social Meetings
