👩💼 About the Role
Within BNP Paribas, the Compliance team, with over 4,000 employees worldwide, focuses on areas like Financial Security, KYC, Market Integrity, and Client Protection. The Financial Security team works to prevent fraud, money laundering, and terrorism financing. BNP Paribas has a robust Anti-Money Laundering (AML) process to manage alerts from various sources. Alerts are handled in three levels: Level 1 (within the business), Level 2 (Compliance investigation and reporting), and Level 3 (Compliance final decision and regulator reporting).
This role is within a new team in Lisbon, specifically managing alerts from France (FRB) at Level 2.
What You'll Do
- Keep track of alerts waiting for more information from the business.
- Propose ways to make processes easier and improve systems and methods.
- Help AML Compliance officers with complex cases or when new procedures/policies are introduced.
- Double-check cases closed by junior compliance officers.
- Perform quality checks on closed alerts.
- Decide to close cases or escalate suspicious cases for further investigation to Level 3. Maintain proper records to support each case.
- Provide regular feedback to the business about the alerts they send to improve their relevance.
- Stay updated on AML/CFT/Sanctions laws and regulations, collaborating with onshore teams.
What We're Looking For

French fluency (required, both speaking and writing - B2 level).
- Ability to quickly learn new tasks and processes and consistently apply them.
- A strong academic background or significant experience in retail banking.
- Meticulous, organized, and structured approach to work.
- Proficiency in V6, Excel, and Word.
- Working knowledge of English (both speaking and writing).
- Experience with AML controls in a bank or financial institution is a plus.
About the Team
The team investigates AML alerts sent by the business, closes false alerts, and escalates suspicious cases to onshore AML teams for further investigation, all according to policies and procedures.
