About MUI:Β πŸŽ‰

MUI, founded in 2019, is a thriving remote company of 35+ people, building a comprehensive ecosystem of React UI products. We started with Material UI, one of GitHub's most popular open-source libraries, and have expanded to include Base UI, Joy UI, MUI X, Design Kits, and Templates. We're also integrating our components into Toolpad, a low-code admin builder. Our culture values asynchronous communication, radical transparency, and self-directed work.

As our first full-time React Engineer dedicated to documentation infrastructure, you'll own the development and maintenance of the platform powering all MUI products. This is a high-growth IC3 (or above) position with significant impact. You'll collaborate across teams, gathering feedback and iterating on features. Your work will range from internal configuration improvements (Webpack, Babel, Netlify, etc.) to user-facing features (like a component playground). You'll also define the Docs-infra roadmap.

What You'll Do: 🎯

  • Boost Performance:Β Keep documentation fast and responsive, monitoring Lighthouse scores, bundle size, and search quality.
  • Develop New Features:Β Enhance how our libraries are showcased through new features.
  • Improve Authoring:Β Make documentation creation easier for maintainers and the community.
  • Manage Infrastructure:Β Handle dependencies, analytics, TypeScript modules, and hosting.
  • Potential Projects:Β Migrate to the Next.js App Router; enable product-scoped search; allow distributed documentation storage; standardize design and layout; create a scalable solution for videos and images.
