The Espiña Research Group The Espiña Research Group is committed to tackling critical water quality challenges through innovative environmental nanotechnologies.

We’re looking for… A talented and motivated Research Engineer to join our team and contribute to the development of cutting-edge water quality monitoring systems.

What you’ll do…

  • Design, fabricate, test, and validate microfluidic systems for integration into measuring devices and lab-on-a-chip systems.
  • Collaborate with team members to develop and refine microfluidic systems.
  • Write detailed reports on project results and standard operating procedures.
  • Contribute to scientific publications alongside team members.
  • Develop and implement new methods for designing and fabricating micro/millifluidic devices.
  • Train team researchers on new techniques and processes.
  • Manage equipment and laboratory resources.

What we’re looking for…

Education

  • PhD in Nanotechnology, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or Physics.

Experience

  • Extensive experience in designing, fabricating, testing, and validating microfluidic devices for sample preparation, integration with sensing systems, and lab-on-a-chip applications.
  • Experience integrating designed microfluidic devices with Raman systems, including confocal microscopes and portable Raman systems with different configurations (optical fiber and free-space configurations).

Technical Skills

  • CAD design
  • Microfluidics fabrication (e.g., photolithography, soft lithography, hot-embossing, injection molding, nano-imprinting, CNC micro-milling, 3D printing, laser cutting)
  • Lab-on-a-chip systems
  • µTAS
  • Surface chemistry and analytical chemistry
  • Characterization techniques (e.g., SEM, TEM, QCM, AFM, FTIR, UVvis spectrophotometry, laser scanning confocal fluorescence microscopy, spectrofluorimetry, electrochemistry)

Other Skills

  • Microfluidics modelling experience (COMSOL)
  • Microbiology experience
