The Roleย ๐Ÿ’ผ


As Senior Director of Operations, Genomics, you'll be a key player in our dynamic Genomics team, managing the operations of our genomics testing department. You'll ensure high-quality data, meet turnaround times, and stay within budget. This is a chance to make a real impact in a stimulating and collaborative setting.


What You'll Doย ๐ŸŽฏ


  • Oversee the laboratory department's operational activities, ensuring adherence to quality and budgetary guidelines. This includes overseeing continuous improvements and operational updates.
  • Manage all Proficiency Testing programs, adhering to regulatory requirements and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Develop, implement, and manage performance standards for staff, focusing on quality and efficiency.
  • Ensure the lab management team follows internal and external quality control procedures. Guide the evaluation of means and standard deviations for quality control materials and maintain corrective action logs.
  • Oversee the quality and timelines of technical procedures to ensure compliance with CAP/CLIA regulations, GCP/GCLP compliance, and other relevant standards.
  • Build and manage high-performing teams, overseeing recruitment and selection.
  • Liaise with clients, vendors, and internal Discovery staff.
  • Manage reagent and supply orders, negotiating pricing and service requirements with vendors. Oversee inventory management.
  • Identify and resolve issues, participate in root cause analysis, and contribute to process improvement initiatives.
  • Respond to quality issues promptly and accurately.
  • Identify development opportunities for yourself and your team, acting as a coach and mentor. Maintain a positive work environment and contribute to staff retention.
  • Prepare reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing data to identify areas for improvement.
  • Support internal and external audits.
  • Establish and track departmental goals to ensure world-class quality and technical service.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
  • Other duties as assigned. Consistent and predictable attendance is essential. This role requires full-time, on-site presence in our Huntsville, AL facility.

What We're Looking Forย ๐Ÿค”


  • Education:ย Ph.D. in Genomics, Molecular Biology, Immunology, or a related field. ASCP certification is a plus.
  • Experience:ย Minimum 7 years of experience in a production genomics laboratory with significant leadership responsibility.
  • Regulatory Knowledge:ย Proficiency in GCP/GCLP, 21 CFR Part 11, CAP/CLIA, and HIPAA regulations.
  • Skills:ย Strong project management and organizational skills; problem-solving abilities; excellent communication (written and verbal) skills; proficiency in MS 365 products; strong leadership and supervisory skills.
  • Knowledge:ย Understanding of biomarkers in clinical trials and drug development; familiarity with laboratory methods and equipment; knowledge of LEAN/Six Sigma principles; familiarity with bioinformatics tools is preferred.
