Job Summary
This job will report to the Commercial - Rare Disease Team, Ophthalmology Division at ANI and will cover the following locations: Michigan. This is an exciting chance to be part of an expanded new presence in the ophthalmology and eye-care area. The position needs people driven by performance with skills in strategic problem-solving and high business understanding who can work together with multiple people who have influence. The ideal candidate will have sales experience in rare disease and in Retina/Ophthalmology. Experience starting a drug in a competitive space with a history of market growth is wanted.
Reporting to the ANI Rare Disease Area Business Director - Ophthalmology, the Ophthalmology Account Executive (OAE) will drive physician and patient finding, market development, and disease/brand awareness within the assigned territory. A successful OAE will keep a high level of knowledge within targeted disease states, product labeling, and reach territory sales goals and other business objectives through account and customer-specific plans.
Activities include teaching referring healthcare providers about the disease state, making sure offices are ready for a patient to start therapy, as well as organizing multiple departments/stakeholders and ANIβs Rare Disease field-based reimbursement and medical support teams. Required skills include account management, organization, analysis, and problem-solving. Individuals must be flexible and able to adjust with sensitivity to the possible limits of a commercial start-up. Candidates will be goal-oriented and responsible for their individual performance while acting in a professional and compliant way.
Responsibilities
- Drive demand through clinical selling and education to referring and treating healthcare providers on Cortrophin Gel and ILUIVEN.
- Build and carry out territory strategy and account-specific plans to drive physician and patient finding, market development, and brand awareness in Ophthalmology and Retina, as well as constantly checking sales chances within markets and accounts to keep and grow the business.
- Put resources, activities, and time in order of importance to make access to and development of accounts with the most sales chance the best they can be.
- Build individual account plans for key accounts and physicians, including how to approach those customers, and how to get the best sales results.
- Build and keep up relationships with physicians by making the most of their time through planning before calls, using what you learn to customize a call plan, and doing analysis after calls to keep refining and making their approach better.
- Work together with members of the Ophthalmology brand team, and help appropriate teamwork with other groups, such as MSLs, the Market Access team, the patient HUB, and other internal stakeholders, to help make sure access and that the needed logistics are in place so patients can benefit from Cortrophin Gel and ILUVIEN.
- Work externally with key accounts and physicians to drive patient finding through market development and physician education; develop a territory strategy to keep customers.

Requirements
- Bachelorβs degree is required; an Advanced degree in business or science is preferred.
- 5 or more years of shown success in rare disease, retina, and/or specialty pharmaceutical sales.
- Lots of experience calling on Retina Specialists, Ophthalmologists, and Eye Care Professionals is strongly preferred.
- Sales experience within multiple ophthalmology sub-specialty areas is ideal/preferred.
- Experience starting a product is a plus, including knowing how government and commercial payers work.
- Understanding and experience working with in-house patient support services is required.
- Understanding of the buy and bill process, patient services, and specialty channel distribution is preferred.
- Familiarity with the rules and regulations of the pharmaceutical industry that are relevant.
- Experience leading and carrying out business planning activities at the territory level.
- Driver's license is required, with the ability to travel 50% or more as needed, with occasional overnight travel as needed.
- Must be able to work evenings and weekends, as needed, for physician or patient events (both in person and online).
- Depending on the area, must be able to manage a territory covering multiple states with a varied customer base.
Salary
The base salary range for this job is $160,000 to $210,000; the exact salary depends on various things such as experience, skills, education, location, abilities, and industry-specific knowledge. In addition to base salary, this job is eligible to take part in a competitive short-term and long-term incentive program based on performance and company results.
